How to Use Shoe Trees?

Here are 4 tips on how to use shoe trees, with more explanation below.

  1. The left shoe tree goes in the left shoe, and the right shoe tree goes in the right shoe.
  2. Don't jam a shoelace or pebble between the shoe tree and the shoe
  3. Place shoe trees in shoes after wearing shoes
  4. After 24 hours, shoe trees can be removed and used in another pair of shoes, or kept inside the shoes.

 

1. The left shoe tree goes in the left shoe, and the right shoe tree goes in the right shoe.

Incorrectly switching the shoe trees can permanently distort your shoes. To identify the left and the right shoe tree, just remember that your shoe trees fit your shoes, which fit your feet. Just like your feet and your shoes, shoe trees are taller on the inside than the outside, because our big toe on the inside is taller than our pinky toe on the outside.

 

2. Don't jam a shoelace or pebble between the shoe tree and the shoe

Before and after you put your shoe trees into your shoes, make sure you don't have a shoe lace or stray pebble inside the shoe. If a lace or pebble gets jammed between the shoe tree and the shoe, it could leave a permanent imprinted outline of itself in your shoe's leather.

 

3. Place shoe trees in shoes after wearing shoes

Some people recommend letting your shoes "air out" for a few hours before placing shoe trees in them. We think this waiting time makes it too easy to forget to use shoe trees entirely, so we'd rather place shoe trees in shoes as soon as our feet are out of them. Immediately after wear is when the flexpoint is most supple, and 

 

4. After 24 hours, shoe trees can be removed and used in another pair of shoes, or kept inside the shoes.

Your shoes are most curled-up and supple immediately after wearing. This is when you want to place shoe trees in your shoes, to restore them to their original shape. After 24 hours, the work is done, and the shoe trees can be removed and used in another pair of shoes. Or, if you have enough shoe trees to go around, you can simply leave the shoe trees in, until you want to wear these shoes again.
