These are designed for the Determination Safety Boots. But they will also work for the Ares Dress Boots if you prefer a more durable lace with a more casual look.
Kevlar is a synthetic fiber best known for its use in bulletproof vests. Its tensile strength-to-weight is five times stronger than steel.
However, 100% kevlar has some drawbacks. It has a rough texture that makes it scrape against eyelet edges, eventually wearing down and breaking. This rough texture is also not comfortable to handle, and unsightly. Kevlar is also sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) light, degrading after prolonged exposure.
By placing a polyester sheath over a kevlar core, we can maintain the strength benefits of kevlar, while mitigating its weaknesses. The polyester sheath runs smoothly through eyelets, is soft to the touch, and stays looking neat. Polyester is also one of the most UV-resistant fibers, and will protect the Kevlar core from UV degradation.
We recommend using the Berluti knot for all your laced shoes. It's a neat knot that stays tied. This is especially useful for your elastic laces, so you can slip in and out of your shoes without retying.

- Care for your Carets by using a shoe cream that allows for conditioning, shine, and water resistance. We recommend Saphir Médaille D'Or Shoe Cream which is made from all natural ingredients.
- Use a shoe horn to slip on your shoes whenever possible.
- After wearing your Carets, properly store them by slipping shoe trees (available at the Outlet Store) inside to help maintain their shape.
- As with all leather, try to avoid water, mud, snow, and salt. If your Carets get dirty, clean them off as soon as possible.
- Be sure to rotate your Carets with other shoes, as even the nicest dress shoes can wear out from constant use.
- Despite their comfort, try to refrain from exercising in your Carets!

Zero-Drop in Disguise
Carets appear to have a heel, but your foot rests inside it for a zero-drop fit. You get the same natural and upright posture as being barefoot for happy ankles, knees, and back, but with a sophisticated look. Without a heel, other minimalist dress shoes simply don’t look high-end.
